Tama drums were founded in Japan in 1974. Originally made in the same factory as Ibanez guitars, Tama started out by introducing affordable drum kits into the American market in the mid 1970’s. By 1979, Tama had grown so successfully that they began competing in the arena of premium drum kits, establishing themselves as one of the most popular drum and hardware manufacturers in the world.
During this time, Tama innovated several developments in drum manufacturing that include the introduction of super heavy-duty hardware and drum mounting system that, unlike most brands in the 1970’s, did not intrude into the shell. Tama's artist roster include Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater, ex-Avenged Sevenfold), Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Stuart Copeland of The Police, Roger Taylor of Duran Duran, Simon Phillips of Toto amongst countless legendary musicians.
We love Tama drums for their outstanding build quality and sound. The Tama product lines are tiered from entry level drum kits to tour-grade custom orders, accommodating players from all backgrounds.
